Lost Mission: The Blog Tour

It's that time again--- the Christian Science Fiction and Fantasy blog tour. The book this time is Lost Mission by Athol Dickson, and it's 'magic realism', which probably means it's good for you.

In accordance with the Federal Government's Reversal of Freedom Act, I am required to disclose that I received a free review copy of this book, which is supposed to bias my review since I don't work for a newspaper where all the writers are unbiased and chocolate milk falls as rain from the skies.....

My plans for this blog tour were disrupted this time around by the annual chaos of Lambing Time. I had ten lambs born over the weekend. This morning there were four new lambs by 8 am. So I am a bit behind on getting my act together for this blog tour.

One fault I found with the book is with a rather bad case of misuse of language. Some characters--- Catholic characters--- use the term Holy Father to refer to God the Father. It is, as most of us know, a title of respect for the Pope. It kind of bothered me because in the first use of the term Holy Father I assumed the author was referring to the Pope, and I really don't like to confuse the creature with the Creator, I believe it's disrespectful.

One good thing I liked about the book is that there are Catholic characters who are Christians who don't need to be 'saved' by an evangelical.

To learn more about this book, look at the review at Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1416583475), or visit the author's web site (http://www.atholdickson.com/) or the author's blog (http://whatatholwrote.blogspot.com/)

And don't forget to visit the other sites on the blog tour, listed below. Another thing not to forget: the new season of Doctor Who begins this Saturday on BBC America. If you don't get that channel, it's time to start sucking up to someone that does.

Thou hast returned! Triple "Yay!"

I really don't like to confuse the creature with the Creator... Yeah, that "Holy Father" thing sounds pretty confused.

I have yet to decide what to do about that Reversal of Freedom Act, aside from prayer (and letters to Congress ad nauseum.) Not wanting to have my children taken away by men in black has something to do with that... Any suggestions?

Sadly, I don't know anyone to suck up to in order to get to see Doctor Who. I'm sure my husband will get the DVD's later, though.

Good to hear your distinctive voice back on line. I have no idea what the reversal what ever it was act is, since I live in Canada. Sounds kind of archaic ...

So glad you posted, Nissa. I was wondering what you thought of the book.

"Reversal of Freedom Act" is actually a joke from "The Simpsons". I used it to refer to a new govt. regulation in which bloggers (but not newspaper book reviewers) are required to disclose that they got a free review copy of the book. The concern I have is that a certain US president wants to get more control of the internet to prevent dissenters from being able to express their opinion and share information.
