Keep Mass in Christmas 2010

D. G. D. Davidson (or was it his pet dragon?) has a good post with the above title, go thou and read it....

As for the title 'Keep Mass in Christmas', that is cool--- Protestants can translate it to 'Keep Christian Worship in Christmas....'  Perhaps it will inspire me to write a cool post of my own--- perhaps 'Keep the Saint in Santa'???

Or perhaps not.

I've always had a problem with 'Consumer Confidence Day', also known as The Holidays, The Season, and, if necessary, Christmas.  I just don't think financial irresponsibility is a great way to celebrate the birth of Christ. And I'm sure Great-Aunt Mabel doesn't want another twenty sets of perfume and bath salts when she hasn't used the ones from last Consumer Confidence Day yet.

Maybe folks should get together with their friends and families and agree to give to a charity like Heifer Project International with the funds they would otherwise waste buying each other useless junk. (And that includes all the useless junk we overwhelm little kids with. Even very poor American kids tend to get more junk-toys each year than they can cope with.)

Komen for the Cure endorses killing children for research

According to the Respect Life Apostolate on the Archdiocese of St. Louis web page, the popular charity 'Susan G. Komen for the Cure' endorses embryonic stem cell research, which involves killing children at the embryonic stage of life in order to buy and sell the dead children's cells to various research organizations.

In addition, the organization's affiliates have given money to the nation's largest abortion clinic chain, Planned Parenthood. The money, earmarked for breast health screenings, frees up other funds for their other operations, including abortions, which are linked by a number of studies to increased rates of breast cancer. Do any women really want breast health screenings from an org. that increases the breast cancer rate???

So when you see the pink ribbon on some product in the store, promising that the product manufacturer will give money to the charity if you buy the product, you are being asked to financially support the killing of children.

Why isn't this public knowledge? Why doesn't the news media routinely refer to Komen for the Cure as a controversial organization and discuss the ESC and Planned Parenthood links? Maybe because the news media is no longer there to inform but to propagandize for a Certain Point of View?

I'd think it would be a good idea if some prolife organizations would start some letter-writing campaigns to the companies who put the pink ribbon on their products protesting their participation in this 'charity'.

(NOTE: breast cancer runs in my family. My grandmother had it, my mom had it, and for all I know I might have it right now. That's why I want breast cancer research funds spent on breast cancer research and not on killing embryonic children or funding Planned Parenthood. Remember, if by some miracle some disease cure is discovered from ESC research, that cure will only be of use to those who don't respect human life. The rest of us will have to wait until a less evil cure is discovered--- which will probably be very long in coming.)

Oh, Crap, It's the Blog Tour! (The Skin Map)

Some time ago I suppested that the quality of Christian science fiction could be greatly improved if only author Harry Turtledove would get saved.
Well, reading "The Skin Map" makes me wonder--- has anyone ever seen Stephen Lawhead and Harry Turtledove in the same place at the same time? Maybe it's like Clark Kent and Superman.

Like Harry Turtledove's Crosstime Traffic series, The Skin Map deals with travel between alternate worlds that are similar to our own, but in which history has gone in somewhat a different way.

In The Skin Map we start off with a young man who is contacted by his great-grandfather, who knows the secret of travelling between worlds using ley-lines, and they visit another world. This makes the young fellow late for a date with his girl, Mina.

To save his love life, the young fellow decides to demonstrate ley-line travel for Mina, with the result that the girl is stranded in Europe about 400 years ago. Being no fragile flower, she does pretty well for herself there, even invents the first Starbucks.

Meanwhile there is the quest for the skin map--- a map of the known worlds, which was tattooed on the skin of an explorer. The skin map is now detached from its owner (who is also a character in the story--- the guy, not his skin) and the good guys must find it because the bad guy wants it so bad.

How about the faith-related content of The Skin Map? Well, compared to the hard-hitting secularist preaching in the latest Crosstime Traffic novel I read, the faith content of The Skin Map is so mild as to be nearly invisible--- which is all to the good, because Christian readers who read secular fiction are just not accustomed to a more hard-hitting Christianity in their fiction.

***EVIL UNCONSTITUTIONAL but GOVT-REQUIRED DISCLAIMER***
Yes, I got a review copy of the book. Which would not have been a bribe but an unwanted burden if the book had not been great.

[CLARIFICATION: By 'Vote Palin' I didn't mean Bristol.]

Personal Stuff: I have been having problems with my internet connection for some time now--- I only have access in the middle of the night. Which is a real pain since I am trying to sell some sheep and have to check my email daily in case of email from potential buyers. So that's one reason why I haven't been working on this blog....

I also just got back from a trip to lower Michigan. Yes, it's scary to be that close to where Gov. Granholm lives. I had to go to deliver 2 sheep and pick up 2 different sheep. It's fun to travel with sheep--- at least when you use a pickup with a stock rack instead of a car. In a car, the sheep keep trying to come into the front seat so they can help you drive.
The great part is when you stop at a McDonald's or a wayside and all the people are gathering around your truck and asking 'what kind of dogs are those...'
