Hunter Brown and the Secret of the Shadow
The Christian Science Fiction and Fantasy Blog tour is almost over, so it's high time I posted. This time I've even got the book, which is Hunter Brown and the Secret of the Shadow - http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1593173288 , and in between all the livestock-related emergencies I've been tending to, I managed to read the first several chapters, and actually enjoyed it.
The book is one of those children's books that are labelled 'Young Adult', which sucks, but fortunately the book doesn't. It starts off with young Hunter Brown and friends playing a prank on a 'bully'--- they put hot sauce in some brownies. Gee, I wonder if the 'bully' thinks that Hunter Brown and friends are bullying him? But I digress.
As a result of the prank Hunter and friends are forced to hide out in a garbage dumpster, which is locked. They are freed by a man they assume is a school janitor, and he offers to not report them to school authorities if they do an errand for him--- go to a nearby bookstore and pick up a book for them.
But the book is no ordinary book, the guy is no janitor, and even the bookstore has disappeared when the boys need to prove what they were up to. And the book leads them into another world and.... well, you'll have to read the book to find out because I'm tuckered out from chasing escaped livestock and want to end this post now.
The book was written by the Miller Brothers, which sounds like a Swing Era band, but are actually two guys who are brothers. Named Miller, I assume. Check the links below to find out more about them.
