#PoetryPantry: remembrance of persian opium

This is a post for Poetry Pantry #218. For more poetry or to share your own poem, click on the link. There are also some lovely pictures of Italy on the page this week.

remembrance of persian opium

the northern inhabitants cannot
behead the profane so proficiently
lack of practice i expect

the machete maddens them
altho impudent, we eat plasterboard on request
against the dread of the dossier

still the annihilation so devoutly to be wished
escapes us, tho the usual intoxicants attempt discretion
in quiescence is contraband schizophrenia

As you can see from the date, this poem was NOT written as a response to the recent epidemic of ISIS beheadings in the Middle East. It may have had something to do with the goings-on in Iran-AKA-Persia. But then again, it may not have.

This poem is one of the many included in my book, Where the Opium Cactus Grows. The current edition of the book won't be available for sale for much longer as I'm going to be putting out a revised and expanded edition shortly. After that, I'll be working on a second volume of poetry to be titled 'Waiting for the Poison Shot'.

About this blog:
This used to be my main blog, before I migrated to Wordpress. I decided to turn this one into a poetry e-zine. I don't know how that's going to work out.

Ouch.. Too timely for comfort.. When intolerance is growing independent on under which banner, the likely victims are the people in the nowhere land that's caught between

It is sad to realize that things that happened in the past so often repeat again. Good luck with your new book.

It seems that cycle is never ending ~ Good luck on your new book ~

Thank God again and again for inexperience in the arts of war and also for some pre-schizo innocence. If only some could be same without their drugs.

Very depressing, but, you captured it well.

Really a painful bit of reality here--from the date--well, for me, that makes it even more so I think

it's like nothing changes... and it seems it never can. absurd really.

Human folly repeats itself too frequently. We think we have learned but delude ourselves. Good luck with your book!

When I noticed your date it was apparent these words were and still are timely...very visceral as the events.

Most painful and most tragic episode in the gory world of human conflict. Sadly it is happening again!

So many intelligent and loving people in this world... yet, we continue to make the same mistakes... over and over again. So sad...

Very much on point for the world in this time.

i think the fall of the Shah had great repercussions in the Arab world. anyway, that regime was just waiting to be overthrown.

>"the dread of the dossier" : oh man, great line! :) also, i like the "choppy" style of this poem. nicely done.
